With Domain Privacy, Infomaniak allows you to preserve the privacy of your personal information (name, email address, postal address, and phone number) and effectively protect yourself against SPAM.
What is the WHOIS Directory?
ICANN-accredited registrars are obligated to publish the contact details of a domain owner in the public WHOIS directory. This directory lists all registered domains and is primarily used for:
- Checking domain name availability.
- Checking trademark infringements.
- Contacting the domain owner in case of legal issues.
Domain Privacy Preserves Your Privacy and Protects You from SPAM
Some clients are concerned about the privacy of their personal data and do not want to publicly display their email address, phone number, and postal address in the WHOIS directory.
Domain Privacy addresses this need for privacy and allows you to conceal your actual contact information. With this protection, WHOIS searches for your domain will not reveal your personal details but instead show the information of our partner Domain Privacy Trustee SA.
- You are protected against SPAM: marketing companies and individuals cannot use your personal data.
- You retain full ownership of your domain.
- It is still possible to contact you through a secure form that protects your identity.
Activate Domain Privacy for an Existing Domain
Domain Privacy can be activated in a few seconds:
- Log in to the Infomaniak Manager (manager.infomaniak.com) from a web browser like Brave or Firefox.
- Click on the icon in the top right corner of the interface (or navigate using the left-side menu, for example).

- How much does a domain cost?
This guide explains how to transfer a domain name that you own with another provider to Infomaniak.
Prerequisites
- Ensure that the domain is transferable according to certain criteria:
- Domain created or already transferred for at least 60 days
- Valid email addresses (owner's contact information, administrative / technical contacts)
- Domain is unlocked
- Safely note the different records (A / MX / TXT, etc.) contained in your domain if you will retain other services than those of Infomaniak after the transfer
- Understand that a DNS update (read below) can take up to 24 hours
- Obtain the authorization code; here are some specific guides to help you if your current Registrar is:
Special cases:
The terms EPP code, authcode, transfer code, and authorization code all refer to alphanumeric sequences specific to the domain whose main purpose is to verify the owner's authorization before transferring between registrars.
Transfer the domain to Infomaniak
Once the above prerequisites are met:
- Order the domain name to transfer with Infomaniak
- Enter the authorization code (read the prerequisites) when prompted during the order process
Batch Transfer
Once the above prerequisites are met:
- Order the domain names all at once via this Infomaniak transfer wizard
- Specify the domain names and the authorization codes or import a CSV file with the list of domains and their authorization codes (in 2 columns)
Transfer Duration, Administrative Delays
The duration of a domain name transfer is influenced by two factors:
- The conditions of the registry of the extension; for .FR, Afnic defines a transfer period of 8 days; refer to the specificities of the extensions that concern you from this page (under Frequently Asked Questions by clicking first on the relevant extension)
- The conditions of the Registrar you wish to leave (e.g., Hostinger); the latter has the possibility to oppose the transfer during the transfer period defined by the registry; it can also automatically accept the transfer and accelerate it
DNS Configuration (Before, During, After)
Before the transfer, your domain name is linked to different services (Mail, Web...) through its DNS.
During the transfer process, you will not be able to intervene on the DNS configuration until the transfer is completed.
After the transfer, as it is sometimes difficult to know when this happens, you can decide in advance what DNS configuration to apply (also possible during batch transfer):
For example:
- Your domain name domain.xyz has before transfer the DNS ns1.myregistrar.com and ns2.myregistrar.com AND you will only work with Infomaniak for everything related to email, web hosting, etc. THEN you don't need to do anything except choose our DNS when prompted during the transfer (same if it already has DNS like ns11.infomaniak.com and ns12.infomaniak.com)
- Your domain name domain.xyz currently has the DNS ns1.myregistrar.com and ns2.myregistrar.com AND you are only moving the domain name while continuing to work with different services other than Infomaniak THEN carefully note the information contained in your current DNS zone (A records, CNAME, etc.) as we cannot guarantee that your current DNS zone will persist where it is currently (check with your current registrar) and choose not to use Infomaniak DNS
- and if you don't know which DNS your domain name currently uses, query it via https://infomaniak.com/whois or another whois service
- if your domain name domain.xyz already has DNS like ns11.infomaniak.com and ns12.infomaniak.com before transfer THEN you don't need to do anything except choose our DNS when prompted during the transfer
This type of e-mail is an automatic message sent by ICANN, the body responsible for administering Internet domain names.
If this is the case, you do not need to take any further action.
However, if the information is not correct, you must then change it (help).
This guide details the administrative steps to transfer the management of a domain with a .DE extension to another registrar than Infomaniak.
Transfer a .DE Domain Elsewhere
As long as the administrative contact listed on the Whois of the domain to be transferred does not have an address located in Germany, it will be impossible to request the transfer code. Read this guide (click here) to modify the contact details.
Alternatively, you can delete the domain name, and in this case, you must:
- either contact Infomaniak support (using the email address mentioned in the WHOIS details) requesting deletion
- or wait for the domain to expire, after which it will be transferred to DENIC, and you can contact them to request permanent deletion
This guide explains how to modify the details associated with a domain name, specifically the owner's/contact information.
The unique aspect of domain names is that each has an owner whose contact details are specific to the domain itself, independent of the customer account managing the product with the host or registrar.
These domain name-related details are referred to as Whois information and can be viewed online through Whois services (e.g., whois.nic.swiss).
"Who is" ?
Whois information consists of contact information related to a domain name, providing details about the domain owner (first name, last name, postal address, phone, email).
Any modification must be validated by the current contact, who will receive an email with a validation link valid for two days to confirm the changes.
Depending on the domain extension in question, these operations may involve fees.
The information in Whois has no connection with the contact details in the Infomaniak customer account and will always take precedence in case of a dispute regarding domain ownership. Therefore, it's essential to keep this information up to date, even if you decide to enable Domain Privacy to conceal this information.
A contact record can be linked to multiple domains, so changing a record will automatically affect all domains with the same Whois contact.
Modifying Whois Information
To access your domain names:
- Log in to the Infomaniak Manager (manager.infomaniak.com) using a web browser like Brave or Firefox
- Click on the icon in the upper right corner of the interface (or navigate via the left sidebar menu, for example)
- Select Domains (category Web & Domain)
- Click on the name of the relevant item in the displayed table
- Click on Whois Information in the left sidebar menu
Several options are available under Domain Owner:
- Click the Edit button to edit postal and phone contact details immediately
- Click the Change Owner button to modify other elements but with the requirement of obtaining agreement from both parties before applying:
- Select another existing contact record (if you own other domain names, this might be the case)
- Or click the Add button to create a completely new contact record
You can also do this for multiple domains at once.
Thank you for entrusting us with the management of your domain names.

This guide explains how to find and display DNS information for any domain registered with Infomaniak (or elsewhere).
Domain with Infomaniak
To access your domain names:
- Log in to the Infomaniak Manager (manager.infomaniak.com) from a web browser like Brave or Firefox.
- Click on the icon at the top right of the interface (or navigate through the left sidebar menu, for example).
- Select Domains (in the Web & Domain section).
- Click directly on the name of the relevant object in the displayed table.
- Click on DNS Servers in the left sidebar menu.
WHOIS Lookup
To view the DNS information of another domain, use a WHOIS service such as https://whois.infomaniak.com/ or https://who.is (be cautious of ads on these third-party services).
This will provide you with a clear response about the DNS status of a domain at a specific moment.
Often, DNS records are displayed in pairs and start with ns..., followed by numbers and the name of the registrar or host.
Be aware that the DNS records displayed may not necessarily be the ones chosen recently by the domain manager. There is a propagation time to consider if changes are in progress for the domain.
This guide details the conditions and procedure to obtain an EV SSL certificate from Sectigo.
Extended Validation (EV) SSL certificates can only be granted to organizations, companies, and businesses registered with the registry or chamber of commerce. DV certificates from Sectigo and Let's Encrypt are not subject to this constraint.
Compare available SSL certificates
Procedure for validating EV certificates
Obtaining an EV SSL certificate may take up to 24 hours and requires valid information from the client.
This procedure is repeated every 12 months, regardless of the chosen subscription duration for the EV certificate.
1. Verification of company details
The data to be added to the certificate must first be verified from an independent source:
- the legal or trading name
- the legal form
- the address
- the postal code
- the region / canton / department
- the country / country code
Attention:
- the company name must match exactly the one registered with the registry or chamber of commerce; the order can only be processed if the given name is registered and correctly noted
- only the registered legal name or the trading name followed by the legal name in parentheses is allowed [example: Trading name (Legal name)]; for entities without a legal name, all trading names can be used
- using a postal address is prohibited
In light of the above, a new request with correct data in the CSR may sometimes be necessary, and Infomaniak may also require your approval to make changes to the information provided during the order.
2. Verification of data in the Whois directory
The Whois directory displays information about the owner of a domain name. This data must match the information provided when ordering the EV SSL certificate.
To update a domain's information in Whois:
- if your domain is managed by Infomaniak, follow this guide (click here)
- if your domain is not managed by Infomaniak, contact your hosting provider/registrar
3. Contract & validation for the EV certificate
After ordering an EV certificate, the designated company contact person will receive an email from the Sectigo certification authority with the following documents:
- the certificate request form
- the certificate contract
These documents are pre-filled, and the contact person must validate them online using an additional code. This will be provided by an automated Sectigo phone robot (the call number will come from the Netherlands, +31 88 775 77 77 in principle) orally to your registered number with the registry or chamber of commerce.
Each certificate request is validated by phone, including renewals and reissues of multi-domain certificates.
4. Domain verification (only for external sites)
This step verifies that you have control of the domain (if it is external to Infomaniak) for which the certificate is requested. Domains of sites hosted at Infomaniak are automatically validated.
Each (sub-) domain must be individually approved via one of the methods described in this guide (click here).
This guide explains what to consider if you have received a letter, by email, mail, or fax, from an unknown company or pretending to be Infomaniak (or a competitor) and mentioning the domain names you own, and requesting payment for related fees.
Slamming Attempts
Several organizations are known to engage in domain slamming, with the aim of forcibly taking over a domain name or simply making money at your expense. Among them: Brandon Gray Internet Services, NameJuice.com, and Global Netsource. Additionally, Asian companies are listed here.
The company called Domain Registrar of America (DROA) also aims to scam domain name holders by sending a fax or email about renewing one or more domain names 2 to 3 months before their expiration date. This offer appears official and professional and offers competitive prices.
The catch: by signing, you agree to transfer your domain names to this registrar, with all the risks of deactivation of your websites and emails. Of course, you are encouraged to pay by credit card! This company has been subject to legal action in the USA, UK, and Canada, but it remains very active in Europe.
Some Recommendations
To avoid being scammed, Infomaniak recommends:
- determine who is sending you such a message... is it a company you know, writing to you from Switzerland or France, in French, etc., or conversely, a letter from abroad (USA, United Kingdom, Jamaica, Asia, etc.), in English, etc.?
- determine the status of your domain name and where it is currently located (to do this, start by doing a whois lookup on infomaniak.com/whois, for example)
- do not respond to these letters... destroy them or risk paying unnecessarily astronomical amounts
- consult the AFNIC Guide on slamming and other fraudulent practices
- activate Domain Privacy for added peace of mind
- report these messages
Questa guida dettaglia le particolaritĂ dell'estensione del dominio .BE (per il Belgio), in particolare le procedure amministrative da seguire per trasferire la gestione di un dominio .BE a Infomaniak.
Trasferire un dominio .be a Infomaniak
