Change the domain name of an Email Service
This guide explains how to replace or change the primary domain name linked to an Email Service (inversion of the domain name linked to the Email Service).
You cannot simply change the spelling of the domain name concerned; you must have the new domain name and install it in place of the current one.
Please note:
updating (propagating) the DNS zone may take up to 48 hours. To avoid interrupting the email traffic, the MX registration of the new domain name must point to Infomaniak for at least 48 hours. Do you wish to entrust management of your DNS zone to us?
After adding or modifying a domain linked to an Email Service, it may be necessary to update the configuration of your webmail customers: kMail (click here), Outlook or other IMAP software (click here), etc.
Two scenarios
- The new domain name that you wish to link to your Email Service is hosted or its DNS zone is managed by Infomaniak. In this case, the registrations in the DNS zone will be updated by our system automatically.
- The new domain name that you wish to link to your Email Service is not hosted by Infomaniak. In this case, it will be necessary to update the DNS registrations of this domain manually.
Replace the primary domain
- Log in to your Infomaniak space (manager.infomaniak.com)
- Go to
Email Service
- Click on the Email Service / domain name concerned
- In the left-hand side menu, click on
Domains management, then select Domains linked to this service
- Click on the blue button in the top right corner :
- Indicate the domain name to be added
- Click on Link this domain
- In the list of linked domains, click on the
icon to the right of the new domain name added and select Define as primary domain
- Then, in the list of linked domains, click on the
icon to the right of the old primary domain and select Unlink the domain
