Change domain name details
This guide explains how to modify the details associated with a domain name, specifically the owner's/contact information.
The unique aspect of domain names is that each has an owner whose contact details are specific to the domain itself, independent of the customer account managing the product with the host or registrar.
These domain name-related details are referred to as Whois information and can be viewed online through Whois services (e.g., whois.nic.swiss).
"Who is" ?
Whois information consists of contact information related to a domain name, providing details about the domain owner (first name, last name, postal address, phone, email).
Any modification must be validated by the current contact, who will receive an email with a validation link valid for two days to confirm the changes.
Depending on the domain extension in question, these operations may involve fees.
The information in Whois has no connection with the contact details in the Infomaniak customer account and will always take precedence in case of a dispute regarding domain ownership. Therefore, it's essential to keep this information up to date, even if you decide to enable Domain Privacy to conceal this information.
A contact record can be linked to multiple domains, so changing a record will automatically affect all domains with the same Whois contact.
Modifying Whois Information
To access your domain names:
- Log in to the Infomaniak Manager (manager.infomaniak.com) using a web browser like Brave or Firefox
- Click on the icon in the upper right corner of the interface (or navigate via the left sidebar menu, for example)
- Select Domains (category Web & Domain)
- Click on the name of the relevant item in the displayed table
- Click on Whois Information in the left sidebar menu
Several options are available under Domain Owner:
- Click the Edit button to edit postal and phone contact details immediately
- Click the Change Owner button to modify other elements but with the requirement of obtaining agreement from both parties before applying:
- Select another existing contact record (if you own other domain names, this might be the case)
- Or click the Add button to create a completely new contact record
You can also do this for multiple domains at once.
