Moving web hosting from one Cloud Server to another
This guide explains how to move a Web Hosting (and all the sites it contains) from one Managed Cloud Server to another Managed Cloud Server.
Both servers must be in the same organization and accessible to the user performing the operation.
Recommendations
FTP & MySQL
When moving hosting from one Cloud Server to another:
- FTP access and databases remain unchanged
- only the supported versions of PHP and MariaDB change at the hosting level, as well as the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of the server
- hostnames do not change and are automatically updated to point to the new IP addresses
Temporary Interruption
The sites on the hosting will be unavailable during the migration of data; this process can take several minutes depending on the number of files to transfer to the new Cloud Server.
Possible Switch to HTTP/2
HTTP/2 is active on the new servers; some directives possibly present in the .htaccess file of your server may require adaptation.
Traffic Redirection
A proxy is set up for 7 days to redirect traffic from the old Server to the new one. Therefore, it is advisable to consider this during this period, especially for crons (read below).
Unmigrated Crons
SSH crons are not migrated.
Files and crons are generally not deleted immediately, which can lead to duplicates. The management of crons is your responsibility: depending on the progress of your migration, it is up to you to disable and enable crons via SSH if you have them, to avoid any execution conflict. We recommend checking your crons and ensuring they are configured appropriately on your new Cloud Server.
Move the Hosting
Once the second Cloud Server is in service:
- Log in to the Infomaniak Manager (manager.infomaniak.com) from a web browser like Brave or Firefox
- Click on the icon at the top right of the interface (or navigate through the left sidebar menu, for example)
- Choose Hosting (universe Web & Domain)
- Click directly on the name of the relevant object in the displayed table
- Click on the Manage button
- Click on Move to another server in the displayed menu
- Choose the desired destination server
- Click Validate
Adapt the DNS Zone and Finish
If your domain names are not managed at Infomaniak or in the same customer account as the Cloud Server, it will be necessary to adapt the A record of the affected domains. Since modifying a domain's DNS zone can take up to 48 hours, we recommend not canceling the old Cloud Server before this period.
Cancel the old Cloud Server if necessary.
