Moving web hosting from one Cloud Server to another
This guide explains how to move a hosting (and all the sites it contains) from a managed Cloud Server to another managed Cloud Server.
Both servers must be in the same organization and accessible to the user performing the operation.
1. Recommendations
Temporary interruption
Hosting sites will be unavailable during data migration ; this process can take several minutes depending on the number of files to be transferred to the new cloud server.
Possible move to HTTP/2
HTTP /2 is active on new servers; some directives that may be present in your server's .htaccess file may require adaptation.
Traffic redirection
A proxy is set up for 7 days to redirect traffic from the old Server to the new one. It is therefore advisable to think about it during this period, especially for the crons (read below).
Crons not migrated
Crons over SSH are not migrated.
Files and crons are usually not deleted immediately, which can lead to duplicates . Managing crons is your responsibility: depending on the progress of your migration, it is up to you to disable and enable crons via SSH if you have any, in order to avoid any runtime conflicts. We recommend that you check your crons and make sure they are set up appropriately on your new cloud server.
2. Move accommodation
Once the second Cloud Server is up and running:
- open the Manager ( manager.infomaniak.com )
- go to Web Hosting
- if necessary click on the hosting / domain name concerned
- click on the Manage button
- in the menu that appears, click on Move to another server
- choose the desired destination server
- click on Validate
3. Adapt the DNS zone and finish
If your domain names are not managed by Infomaniak or in the same customer account as the Cloud Server , it will be necessary to adapt the A record of the domains concerned. As the modification of a DNS zone of a domain can take up to 48 hours, we advise you not to terminate the old Cloud Server before this time.
Terminate the old Cloud Server if necessary.
