Transfer a domain to Infomaniak (authorization code required)
Thank you for entrusting the management of your domain names to Infomaniak!
As a reminder, a domain name is the address you enter in a web browser to view a website, such as infomaniak.com.
This guide explains how to transfer your domain name, which you already own, from one registrar (or competitor registrar) to another, in this case, Infomaniak.
Prerequisites
- Ensure that the domain is transferable based on certain criteria:
- Active domain
- Domain created or transferred from the current registrar for at least 60 days
- Valid email addresses for the owner and administrative and technical contacts
- The domain to be transferred is unlocked at the current registrar
- Obtain the transfer authorization code (or authcode) from your current registrar for the domain to be transferred (instructions below)
- Note and keep the technical information related to the DNS zone UNLESS they are already those of Infomaniak or if you are going to work exclusively with Infomaniak for your web needs. Examples:
- Your domain name domain.xyz already uses the DNS ns11.infomaniak.com and ns12.infomaniak.com THEN you don't need to do anything except choose our DNS when asked during the transfer:
- Your domain name domain.xyz currently uses the DNS ns1.myregistrar.com and ns2.myregistrar.com AND you are only going to work with Infomaniak for email, web hosting, etc. THEN you don't need to do anything except choose our DNS when asked during the transfer:
- Your domain name domain.xyz currently uses the DNS ns1.myregistrar.com and ns2.myregistrar.com AND you are moving the domain name while continuing to work with various services other than Infomaniak THEN make a note of the information in your current DNS zone (A records, CNAME, etc.) as we cannot guarantee that your current DNS zone will remain where it is currently (check with your current registrar) and choose not to use Infomaniak's DNS:
- If you don't know which DNS your domain name currently uses, query it through https://infomaniak.com/whois
- Your domain name domain.xyz already uses the DNS ns11.infomaniak.com and ns12.infomaniak.com THEN you don't need to do anything except choose our DNS when asked during the transfer:
Obtain the Transfer Code from Your Registrar
As a hosting provider, Infomaniak is only an intermediary, and we cannot provide additional support on this matter. If needed, contact your current registrar or you can contact one of our partners and submit a request for a quote for free.
You must request and obtain the transfer authorization code from your current registrar. Example:

Administrative Delays
The duration of a domain name transfer is influenced by two factors:
- The conditions of the registry for the extension. For .FR, Afnic, for example, defines a transfer period of 8 days.
- The conditions of the registrar you wish to leave (e.g., Hostinger). The latter has the option to object to the transfer during the transfer period defined by the registry. It can also automatically accept the transfer and expedite it.
Reminder: the transfer duration may vary depending on the extension, please refer to the specifics of the extensions that concern you from this page (under Frequently Asked Questions, by first clicking on the relevant extension)
