Transfer a domain name to Infomaniak

Update 08/06/2026

This guide explains how to transfer your domain name from your current provider to Infomaniak. You will, of course, remain the owner of your domain name and can manage it easily and at a lower cost.

Prerequisites

  • Make sure that the domain name is transferable according to certain criteria:
    1. domain created or already transferred at least 60 days ago
    2. valid email addresses (owner contact information, administrator/technical contact information)
    3. domain unlocked
  • Note down in a safe place the various records (A / MX / TXT, etc.) contained in your domain if you will be keeping other services besides those from Infomaniak after the transfer.
  • This involves transferring a domain name that you own from a provider other than Infomaniak, so that the future management of this domain is handled by Infomaniak.
    • This is therefore not an internal transfer from one account holder to another, and the code you need to obtain is not a code for an internal transfer to your current provider.
    • Instead, obtain the authorization code.
    • The terms "EPP", "AuthCode", "AuthInfo", "transfer code" and "authorization code" all refer to alphanumeric sequences specific to the domain, the main purpose of which is to verify the owner's authorization before a transfer between Registrars.
  • Here are some specific guides to help you if your current Registrar is:

Transfer your domain to Infomaniak

Once the prerequisites above have been validated:

  1. Order the domain name transfer at Infomaniak.
  2. Enter the authorization code (see prerequisites) when prompted during the order process.
  3. Refer to the DNS section below and, if necessary:
    1. Run a DNS diagnostic to verify the link between your domain and Infomaniak services.
    2. Run a Mail diagnostic (SPF, DKIM, etc.) to prevent any sending or receiving issues.

Transferring multiple domains in bulk

Once the above prerequisites have been validated:

  1. Order the domain names at once using this Infomaniak transfer assistant.
  2. Enter the domain names and authorization codes, or import a CSV file (.csv or .xlsx format) containing the list of domains and their authorization codes (in 2 columns and a maximum of 300 lines).

Transfer duration, administrative processing times

The time it takes to transfer a domain name is influenced by two factors:

  1. The conditions of the registry for the extension; for .FR, Afnic sets a transfer time of up to 8 days; refer to the specific details of the extensions that concern you on this page (under Frequently Asked Questions by first clicking on the extension in question).
  2. The terms and conditions of the registrar you wish to leave; the registrar has the option to object to the transfer during the transfer period defined by the registry; it can also automatically accept the transfer and speed it up.

Please note that a DNS update (see below) may take up to 24 hours.

DNS configuration (before, during, and after)

  • Before the transfer, your domain name is linked to various services (Mail, Web, etc.) through its DNS.
  • While the transfer is in progress, you will not be able to modify the DNS configuration until the transfer is complete.
  • Since it can sometimes be difficult to know when this will happen, you can decide in advance what DNS configuration to apply (also possible during a bulk transfer):

For example:

  1. Your domain name domain.xyz currently uses the DNS servers ns1.monregistrar.com and ns2.monregistrar.com and you will only be using Infomaniak for all your email, web hosting, etc. services…
    • …then you don't need to do anything other than choose our DNS servers when prompted during the transfer (the same applies if it already uses Infomaniak DNS servers, for example ns11.infomaniak.com and ns12.infomaniak.com).
  2. Your domain name domain.xyz currently uses the DNS servers ns1.monregistrar.com and ns2.monregistrar.com and you are only transferring the domain name while continuing to use different services other than Infomaniak…
    • …then carefully note the information contained in your current DNS zone (the A, CNAME, etc. records) because Infomaniak cannot guarantee that your current DNS zone will remain where it is currently located (check with your current registrar) and choose not to use Infomaniak DNS servers.
  3. If you don't know which DNS servers your domain name is currently using...
  4. If your domain name domain.xyz already has DNS servers such as ns11.infomaniak.com and ns12.infomaniak.com before the transfer...
    • ...then you don't need to do anything other than choose our DNS servers when prompted during the transfer.
