Transfer a WordPress site (with All-in-One WP Migration)
This guide explains how to transfer a website with WordPress installed, using one of its plugins, All-in-One WP Migration.
Prerequisites
- order web hosting / Cloud Server if you don't already have one
- create a site on your new hosting by choosing to install Infomaniak WordPress (this option is available when adding a site - you can also install a WordPress site after creating a blank site)
Complete Backup of the WordPress Site
To back up all the files and the database of an existing WordPress site:
- Install and activate the All-in-One WP Migration plugin from the WordPress admin interface of the current site
- Go to the dashboard of the newly installed plugin
- Click on Export
Download the exported archive
Site Restoration
As specified in the prerequisites above, install a new WordPress on your Infomaniak web hosting, then:
Install and activate the All-in-One WP Migration plugin from the admin interface of the new WordPress (as explained in the video below, it is sometimes necessary to use the preview URL to log in to the new site, e.g., if the domain is being transferred)
- Go to the dashboard of the newly installed plugin
- Click to import a file, in this case, the exported archive of your previous WordPress site
If the archive is large, you need to increase the maximum allowed upload size in the website settings
- Once the site is re-imported, don't forget to reconfigure the main address of the site on Infomaniak:
- When conditions allow (e.g., domain name transfer completed), install an SSL certificate and check step 4 above again to select the https:// address
