Linking an external domain name to Infomaniak hosting (modification of the DNS zone is possible)
This guide explains how to link an external domain name (not managed by Infomaniak and therefore managed by another registrar) to Infomaniak Web and/or Mail hosting.
It assumes that you are able to modify the DNS zone (A record, MX record, etc.) of your domain name.
Linking the external domain to your Web Hosting
To link your external domain to your Infomaniak web hosting:
- Open the Manager (manager.infomaniak.com)
- Go to Web Hosting
- If necessary, click the hosting/domain name concerned
- In the centre, click More Information
- Carefully note the IPv4 address that is displayed (e.g.: xx.xx.xx.xxx)
Then edit the DNS zone (of the existing external domain) so that it contains this record with the IP address of your hosting/site:
A record
IN A xx.xx.xx.xxx
If necessary, use the documentation of the registrar (where the domain name is stored) or that of the DNS zone provider.
It can take 24 to 48 hours for these settings to become active.
The domain name and site name you link to it must be identical.
The procedure can be repeated for the version with www (in this case you need a second A record with the same target IP).
If the domain is to become the alias of your primary site, you must add the alias to your site: https://faq.infomaniak.com/1946
Link the external domain to your Email Service
To link a domain hosted by a different registrar to an Infomaniak Email Service, you need to edit the DNS zone of this service with the following two records:
IN MX mta-gw.infomaniak.chTXT record
IN TXT v=spf1 include:spf.infomaniak.ch -all
If necessary, use the documentation of the registrar (where the domain name is stored) or of the DNS zone supplier.
It may take up to 24/48 hours for these settings to be taking into account.
The domain name and the domain of your emails (what comes after the @) to which you link it must be identical.
