Why is a bank pre-authorization performed?

Public Cloud is a pay-as-you-go service: the resources used are billed based on their consumption.

Pre-authorization is used to verify that the credit card provided during the order is valid and usable before the product is created.

This verification, in particular, confirms with the financial institution that the card can be used for a transaction and meets the necessary requirements for this operation.

Thus, virtual, disposable, temporary, or single-use cards are not accepted, as they do not allow for a bank pre-authorization.

What is the amount of the pre-authorization?

A pre-authorization of 20 CHF/EUR is made on the credit card when creating the Public Cloud product.

This is a temporary fund reservation and not a payment made to Infomaniak.

The pre-authorization does not constitute a charge, and the amount is not debited by Infomaniak.

After the card is verified, the pre-authorization is released. The time it takes for the amount to become available again depends on the bank and may vary from one bank to another.

How does billing work afterwards?

Public Cloud remains a postpaid service. The pre-authorization therefore does not constitute a credit or an advance on the service usage.

The resources used are billed separately according to actual consumption and the prices applicable to the product.

The pre-authorization performed when creating the product is not used to pay these invoices.

I don't have a credit card, what should I do?

A credit card is required to order a Public Cloud product directly.

If you do not have a credit card, particularly in the context of a institution, school, or other organization, please contact Infomaniak support to discuss the possibility of creating the product without a credit card.
