Understanding the Validity of SSL EV & DV Certificates
This guide details the validation rules for EV and DV SSL certificates, following the latest guidelines from the cybersecurity industry.
Validity period of SSL certificates
Driven by the CA/B Forum (which brings together major players in the web, such as Apple, Google, and Mozilla), and in order to strengthen the overall security of exchanges, the maximum validity period for SSL certificates has been reduced.Since mid-March 2026, any new certificate issued by Sectigo will have a maximum validity period of 200 days (approximately 6 months)., compared to 397 days previously.
Important note regarding the interface: the date displayed on the card for your product in the Infomaniak interface refers to the expiration date of the current technical SSL certificate, and not the expiration date of your product (subscription).
This shortening of the certificate lifecycle aims to limit the risks associated with hacking and ensure that companies' identity information is verified more frequently. This change does not affect the price or the commitment period of your product.
The SSL certificates from Let's Encrypt are not affected by this change (Infomaniak automatically manages their renewal). Certificates issued before the change remain valid until their initial expiration date.
Renewal and Reissuance Process
To anticipate the certificate's expiration date, the request for The reissue is automatically submitted to Sectigo 15 days before the certificate's expiration date. A new attempt is made daily if needed.
To complete the issuance of the new certificate, it is still essential to repeat the necessary validation steps according to the certificate type.
Sectigo DV SSL Certificates
For DV (Domain Validation) SSL certificates, the automatic reissuance is accompanied by a domain check.
- If your website is hosted with Infomaniak: the revalidation and installation of the new certificate are completely transparent and automatic.
- If your website is hosted outside of Infomaniak:you will need to validate the domain and manually reinstall the certificate on your server each time it is renewed.
Sectigo EV SSL Certificates
Due to their higher level of security, EV (Extended Validation) SSL certificates require repeat all company validation steps each time the certificate is reissued (every 6 months), regardless of the subscription duration chosen.
- This procedure involves validating the administrative data and making a confirmation phone call (as described in this other guide).
- As with DV certificates, manual reinstallation is essential if the certificate is used on a server external to Infomaniak.
