Migration: Keep your current hosting content on a Cloud Server

Update 10/13/2026

This guide explains how to migrate an existing Infomaniak web hosting account to Cloud Server. By following this procedure, you will keep the content you currently have on your hostingwhile benefiting from the latest updates.

Requirements

  • Own or order a Cloud Server in the same account as your hosting (❓: help).
  • Have at least one free hosting slot on your Cloud Server (5 hosting slots are included by default); if needed, add an additional hosting slot. (❓: help).

Start the migration process

To do this:

  1. Start the migration process (❓: help).
  2. Check the box Migrate my hosting to one of my servers.
  3. Select the destination server via the drop-down menu.
  4. Check the box Retrieve files and databases.
  5. Click on the Next button.

At this stage, your website is still running on the old server, and you have 30 days to test and adapt your website on the new server. To avoid losing data, it is recommended that you do not update your website on both the old and the new server during the migration phase.

Test your website on the new server

To do this:

  1. Click here to access the hosting & website management section in your Infomaniak Manager (❓: help).
  2. Click directly on the name assigned to the product you migrated.
  3. Click on the ‍Test my sites‍ button at the top of the page to display your site as it will appear when it is put into production on the new server:
    ‍
    1. During your tests, make sure that the URL displayed in the address bar of your browser matches the preview address on each page you test; otherwise, check that your site does not have any redirects that prevent it from being previewed.
    2. If the site displays correctly, go directly to the verification step below; otherwise, go to the step just below.

Adapt the site for the new infrastructure

With a content management system (CMS) such as WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, or another web application (ownCloud, phpBB, etc.) using a database, adapt the following information in the appropriate configuration file so that the site functions:

  • the name of the database
  • the database server
  • the username used to access the database
  • the password for the username that accesses the database

To find this information in the Manager, please refer to this other guide (+ help for WordPress and help for Joomla).

  • These changes must be made on the new server via a new FTP account (❓: help).

Checks to perform before going live

Important: before launching your website, be sure to check the following points.

Retrieve the latest changes on the new server

If the content of the old site was modified by a user during the transition period, retrieve these changes on the new server:

  1. Click here to access the hosting & website management section in your Infomaniak Manager (❓: help).
  2. Click directly on the name assigned to the product you migrated.
  3. Click the Copy my data button:
    ‍
  4. Choose the items to import according to your needs (if you re-import the /web folder while activating the overwrite existing files setting, you will also overwrite your modified configuration files; therefore, make a backup copy before proceeding so that you can easily restore them after the copy).
  5. Click the blue Start Copy button.

Check the scheduled tasks (cronjobs)

In the case of scheduled tasks (cron jobs), it is necessary to test and reactivate them:

  1. Click here to access the hosting & website management section in your Infomaniak Manager (❓: help).
  2. Click directly on the name assigned to the product in question.
  3. Click on Web in the left-hand menu.
  4. Click on Task Scheduler in the left-hand menu.
  5. Test your site again by following the procedure described above in this guide.

Go Live

To permanently switch traffic to the new server (you will no longer have access to the old site and your databases stored on the old server):

  1. Click here to access the hosting & website management section in your Infomaniak Manager (❓: help).
  2. Click directly on the name assigned to the product you migrated.
  3. Click on the ‍Publish‍ button.
    ‍‍

If your domain name is not managed by Infomaniak or if it is in a different Organization than the website in question:

  • Modify the DNS record (A record) to specify the new IP address of your website (❓: help).
