Restrict video access by country or IP address

Update 11/02/2026

This guide explains how to restrict access to videos uploaded to an Infomaniak VOD service based on geographical criteria and/or IP addresses.

Introduction

  • Please note that protection is only effective in the case of standard iframe integration and therefore through the use of the Infomaniak Player.
  • Other access restrictions can be enabled and apply to file access: token | password
  • You can manage the thumbnail images used when restricting access.

Restrict access via GeoIP

Geographic and IP-based restrictions are configured at the import folder level and will protect all videos in that folder. To configure this folder:

  1. Click here to access the management of your VOD/AOD on the Infomaniak Manager (need help?).
  2. Click directly on the name assigned to the product in question:
  3. Click on Media in the left-hand menu.
  4. Click on Media Management in the left-hand menu.
  5. Click on the icon to create a New folder:
  6. Give the folder a name.
  7. Click the blue button to Create the folder.
  8. Click on Settings:
  9. Click on the Restrictions tab.
  10. Disable the toggle switch if necessary to remove the inheritance from the parent folder, so that you can configure your own rules for this specific folder.
  11. Enable the toggle switch to define a list of countries and what should be done with it:
    1. Allow only the countries in the list to access the media (everything else is blocked).
    2. Allow the entire world except for the countries in the list, which will be blocked.
  12. Activate the toggle switch to define a list of IP addresses or IP address ranges that should be allowed or blocked (the * character is allowed).
  13. Click Save once the desired restrictions have been configured:
  14. Upload new videos to this folder to restrict them according to your strict rules when they are played.
