Protect access to VOD videos with a password

Update 11/02/2026

This guide explains how to password-protect videos uploaded to an Infomaniak VOD service.

Introduction

  • Playing a video within a Player configured on the VOD service will require a password, without which viewing will not be possible.
  • It is not possible to specify multiple different passwords for the same video.
  • Other access restrictions can be enabled and apply to file access: token | geoip
  • You can manage the preview images used when restricting access.

Protect a video with a password

Password protection can be configured in several ways.

1. Password at the import folder level

If a password is set once at the destination folder level, all new media imports will automatically include this password when accessed. However, it is still possible to modify the visibility of each video individually (see below).

To configure this folder:

  1. Click here to access the management of your VOD/AOD in the Infomaniak Manager (need help?).
  2. Click directly on the name assigned to the product in question:
  3. Click on Media in the left-hand menu.
  4. Click on Media Management in the left-hand menu.
  5. Click on the icon to create a New folder:
  6. Give the folder a name.
  7. Click the blue button to Create the folder.
  8. Click on Settings:
  9. Click on the Media Processing tab.
  10. If necessary, disable the toggle switch to remove the inheritance from the parent folder, so you can configure your own rules for this specific folder.
  11. Under Visibility, choose the Password option and enter a new password with a minimum of 6 characters.
  12. Click on Save once you have configured the various desired options:
  13. Upload new videos to this folder to restrict them with a password when they are played.

A video that has already been encoded in another location within your VOD space will not be automatically protected, even if it is moved into this folder. You will need to change its status manually (see below).

2. Password defined manually for each video

To change the visibility of a video on a VOD service:

  1. Click here to access the management of your VOD/AOD in the Infomaniak Manager (need help?).
  2. Click directly on the name assigned to the product in question.
  3. Click on Media in the left-hand menu.
  4. Click on Media Management in the left-hand menu.
  5. Click on the video in question.
  6. Click on Edit in the Status section.
  7. To change the visibility of this media, select the Password option and enter a new password with a minimum of 6 characters.
  8. Click on the blue button to Change the status:
  9. The video is now password protected:
