Back up data with Cyberduck on Swiss Backup (SFTP)

This guide details how to manually save data using the Cyberduck application (macOS / Windows) via the SFTP protocol on Swiss Backup, the backup solution in an independent Swiss cloud.

 

Preamble

  • It is also possible to use the OpenStack Swift protocol: refer to this other guide.
  • The various services offered by Infomaniak are all compatible with the corresponding standard protocols (S3/Swift for storage, for example). Therefore, if you encounter a problem with third-party software, contact its publisher or a Partner and consult the support policy as well as article 11.9 of the Infomaniak Terms of Service.

 

Configure Cyberduck

Prerequisites

To configure a new backup:

  1. Open a connection / click on Open Connection:
  2. Fill in the fields according to the information specific to your device (refer to this other guide):
    1. Select from the drop-down menu: SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol).
    2. Server: sftp.swiss-backup02.infomaniak.com
    3. Username: Swiss Backup device name (e.g., SBI-MS0020).
    4. Password: Password generated via the email received after creating the Swiss Backup device.
    5. Click on Connect.

 

Cyberduck allows you to create bookmarks, pre-configured accesses for easy connection to FTP storage later. To create a new bookmark:

  1. Click on the icon at the bottom left:
  2. Fill in the fields according to the information specific to your device (refer to this other guide).
    1. Select from the drop-down menu: SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol).
    2. Specify the name of the Cyberduck bookmark
    3. Server: sftp.swiss-backup02.infomaniak.com
    4. Username: Swiss Backup device name (e.g., SBI-MS0020)
    5. Password: Password generated via the email received after creating the Swiss Backup device
  3. Close the window.

Once the bookmark is created, double-click on this bookmark to connect to the FTP storage.
