Getting Started Guide: SwissTransfer (send large files for free)

Update 08/13/2026

Thank you for using Infomaniak to securely transmit your large documents to your contacts, thus guaranteeing a professional and efficient solution for your data exchanges.

Introduction

  • SwissTransfer is a secure online file transfer platform that allows you to send large files easily and efficiently.
  • Unlike many other file transfer services, SwissTransfer accepts files up to 50 GB, which is particularly useful for large files that cannot be sent as email attachments or by other traditional means.
  • Furthermore, data security is guaranteed because Infomaniak places particular emphasis on confidentiality, and ethics are at the heart of its concerns.

Transfer data with SwissTransfer

To send files using SwissTransfer:

You can also use the SwissTransfer mobile app (application for iOS/Android smartphones or tablets); if you have any problems installing the app, please refer to this other guide. Thanks to its integration on iOS/Android, it offers quick file sharing options for your files, photos, PDFs, etc., directly from the file explorer:

Downloading data

Files transferred via SwissTransfer can be downloaded by the user…

  • …either one by one…
  • … either by using the "Download All" button, which will create a .zip archive to download:
    • If the archive exceeds 10 GB, you will need to download the data files one by one.
    • Therefore, if you need to send several large files, it is best to group them together beforehand into a zip/rar/etc. archive (see below).

Files are automatically deleted after 15 days.An extension of up to 30 days is possible: it is offered by email to the sender on the 12th day and remains available for 3 days.

Confirmation of the user's email address

To enhance security, email address verification is required:

  • This verification is only performed once per device (it is saved in your browser).
  • If your email address has already been validated, nothing will change for you. Otherwise, a confirmation code will be sent to you by email: simply enter it to complete your transfer.

Compress files before sending…

You can transfer multiple files using SwissTransfer by selecting them on your device, even if the data to be sent includes folders.

  • To facilitate sending, it is not mandatory, but it is easy to compress your files into a format such as ZIP.
  • These operations will create a new compressed .zip folder that can be sent more quickly with SwissTransfer because the total size will generally be reduced.
