Order a Sectigo EV SSL certificate
This guide details the conditions and procedure for obtaining a Sectigo EV SSL certificate via Infomaniak.
Introduction
- Extended Validation (EV) SSL certificates are exclusively reserved for organizations, companies, and entities legally registered with a recognized government authority (such as a commercial register).
- DV certificates from Sectigo and Let's Encrypt are not subject to this requirement.
- Compare the available SSL certificates
- If you encounter difficulties when validating a DV or EV certificate, please refer to this other guide.
EV Certificate Validation Procedure
Obtaining an SSL EV certificate may take up to 24 hours and depends on the accuracy of the information provided by the customer.
This process is repeated at regular intervals (see this other guide for more details), regardless of the subscription period chosen for the certificate.
1. Verifying Company Details
The data included in the certificate must be verified beforehand using an independent source:
- Company name (legal name) or trading name
- Legal form
- Physical address of the registered office
- Postal code
- Région / Canton / Département
- Country / Country code
Important notes:
- The company name must exactly match the one registered in the commercial register; the request can only be processed if the name is officially registered.
- Only the legal name or the brand name followed by the legal name in parentheses is allowed [e.g., Trading name (Legal name)]. For entities without a separate legal name, the trading name can be used.
- Using a simple PO box is not allowed; a physical address is required.
Given these requirements, a new request with corrected data in the CSR may sometimes be necessary. Infomaniak may also request your approval to modify the information provided during the order.
2. Verifying data in the WHOIS directory
The WHOIS directory lists the information of a domain name owner. This data must absolutely match the information provided when ordering the SSL EV certificate.
To update the WHOIS information for a domain:
- If your domain is managed by Infomaniak, please refer to this other guide.
- If your domain is managed by another provider, contact your current registrar.
3. Contract signing and final validation
Once the EV certificate order is complete, the designated contact person will receive an email from the certification authority Sectigo containing the following documents:
- The certificate request form
- The subscription agreement
These documents are pre-filled. Validation is done online using a verification code transmitted verbally by Sectigo's automated call system (usually from the Dutch number +31 88 775 77 77).
The call is made to the telephone number officially registered with the commercial registry.
Each certificate request is subject to telephone validation, including renewals and reissues of multi-domain certificates.
For any questions regarding the validation process, please contact Sectigo directly.
4. Domain verification (external sites only)
This step confirms that you have control over the domain in question (if it is not hosted with Infomaniak – domains pointing to websites hosted with Infomaniak are automatically validated).
Each domain or subdomain must be approved individually using one of the methods described in this other guide.
