Modify an email address (edit the part before the @ symbol)

This guide explains how to modify an email address within a Mail Service, for example, if you want to edit the spelling of the part that comes before the @ symbol in your email address (= the prefix).
Introduction
- This can be useful for addresses in the format "firstname.lastname" in case of a change of last name (e.g., marriage) or simply a change of spelling.

Modify the prefix of an email address
To change an email address from the format address1@domain.xyz…
… to a renamed address adresse2@domain.xyz…
… and given thatit is not possible to simply change the spelling of an email address; you must:
… or create a mail alias
- then, if using email software/client, reconfigure your email settings
- and optionally, in Mail, modify the sending address in the Signature section
… or create a second email address with the new wording
- then move the messages from one address to the other
- and delete the first address if necessary.
