Migration: keep the current content of your hosting on a Cloud Server
This guide explains how to migrate an existing Infomaniak Web hosting to Cloud Server. By following this procedure, you will keep the content you currently have on your hosting while benefiting from the latest developments.
Prerequisites
- Own or order a Cloud Server in the same account as your hosting.
- Have at least one free hosting on your Cloud Server (5 hostings are included by default); if needed, add an additional hosting.
If needed, local partners referenced by Infomaniak can handle these procedures: launch a free call for tenders; they take care of everything, freeing you from technical details.
Start the migration procedure
To do this:
- Start the migration procedure.
- Check the box Migrate my hosting to one of my servers.
- Select the destination server via the drop-down menu.
- Check the box Retrieve files and databases.
- Click on the button Next.
At this stage, your website is still running on the old server and you have 30 days to test and adapt your site on the new server. To avoid data loss, it is recommended not to update your site on both the old and new servers during the migration phase.
Test your site on the new server
To do this:
- Click here to access the management of your product on the Infomaniak Manager (need help?).
- Click directly on the name assigned to the product you have migrated.
- Click on the button 2 Test my sites at the top of the page to display your site as it will appear when it is put into production on the new server:
- During your tests, check on each of the pages tested that the URL displayed in your browser's address bar corresponds to the preview address, otherwise check that your site does not have redirects that prevent its preview.
- If the site displays normally, go directly to the verification step below otherwise go to the step just below.
Adapt the site for the new infrastructure
With a content management system (CMS) like WordPress, Joomla, Drupal or another web application (ownCloud, phpBB, etc.) using a database, adapt the following information in the configuration file:
- the name of the database
- the database server
- the username that accesses the database
- the password of the username that accesses the database
To find this information on the Manager, refer to this other guide (+ help WordPress and help Joomla).
- These changes must be made on the new server via a new FTP account (help).
Checks to make before going live
Important! Before going live with your site, make sure to check the following points.
Retrieve the latest changes on the new server
If the content of the old site has been modified by a user during the transition period, retrieve these changes on the new server:
- Click here to access the management of your product on the Infomaniak Manager (need help?).
- Click directly on the name assigned to the product you have migrated
- Click the button 1 Copy my data:
- Choose the elements to import according to your needs (if you re-import the folder
/webby activating the parameter overwrite existing files, you will also overwrite your modified configuration files; make sure to back them up before proceeding so you can easily restore them after the copy). - Click the blue button Start copy.
Check scheduled tasks (cronjobs)
If there are scheduled tasks (cronjobs), it is necessary to test and reactivate them:
- Click here to access the management of your product on the Infomaniak Manager (need help?).
- Click directly on the name assigned to the concerned product.
- Click on Web in the left sidebar menu.
- Click on Task scheduler in the left sidebar menu.
- Test your site again by following the procedure described earlier in this guide.
Go live
To permanently switch traffic to the new server (you will no longer have access to the old site and your databases stored on the old server):
- Click here to access the management of your product on the Infomaniak Manager (need help?).
- Click directly on the name assigned to the product you have migrated.
- Click the button 3 Go live.
If your domain name is not managed by Infomaniak or if it is in a different Organization than the one of the concerned site:
- Modify the pointing (A type records) to specify the new IP address of your site.
