Install a personalised SSL certificate
Although Infomaniak offers you all the SSL certificates you might need:
- Let's Encrypt certificates for personal sites: click here to install a Let's Encrypt certificate (only possible with websites hosted by Infomaniak)
- DV certificates from Sectigo for professional/private sites which are not listed on the commercial register and EV certificates from Sectigo for companies listed on the commercial register: click here to order an EV or DV certificate from Sectigo, the leading certification authority worldwide (click here if you want to compare these SSL certificates: price, guarantees, services included, etc.)
it is also possible to install an SSL certificate obtained elsewhere (intermediate certificate from a certification body of your choice), personalised or self-signed certificates.
This guide explains how to generate a CSR (Certificate Signing Request). It is an encrypted text block carrying a unique indication of who you are and which domain name you wish to protect with this certificate.
1. Install a self-signed or personalised SSL certificate
- open the Manager (manager.infomaniak.com)
- go to Web hosting
- click on the hosting/domain name concerned
- in the left-hand side panel, click on My sites then on SSL certificates
- select the website concerned at the top of the page
- select I already own an SSL certificate at the bottom of the page
- click on Next
At this stage, the traffic on your website is encrypted, but the first time your site is displayed for the visitors will give rise to a very dissuasive security warning. To avoid this, we strongly recommend installing a free SSL certificate from Let's Encrypt or a professional SSL certificate from Sectigo. Compare SSL certificates
2. Generate a certificate request (CSR)
- open the Manager (manager.infomaniak.com)
- go to Web hosting
- click on the hosting/domain name concerned
- in the left-hand side panel, click on My sites then on SSL certificates
- click on the site which currently has a self-signed certificate
- click on Manage
- click on Generate a certificate request (CSR)
This page allows you to generate a file which must be submitted to a certification authority accredited to issue a signed certificate.
Once the page has been completed with your information and validated (by clicking on Generate the request), click on the button to Download the .csr file and send it to certification authority of your choice in order to obtain the signed certificate to be imported in the same place (read below). You can also copy-paste if you wish, using the corresponding option. The certificate obtained via this CSR will only be valid for this hosting.
3. Import a certificate / intermediate certificate
- open the Manager (manager.infomaniak.com)
- go to web hosting
- click on the hosting/domain name concerned
- in the left-hand side panel, click on My sites then on SSL certificates
- click on the site which currently has a self-signed certificate
- click on Manage
- click on Importer a certificate or Import an intermediate certificate and follow the instructions in order to select the .crt file and import it. You can also copy-paste if you wish by using the corresponding option.
