Discussion Lists
The email discussion tool allows you to:
- to establish a list of members with the subscribe/unsubscribe option
- to contact members by email (either by writing/sending your message in the tool directly, or via your usual email software)
- to receive the responses of the discussion participants (including those done anonymously) by email
The Discussion Lists tool is only available to users who activated it before 2015 and will no longer evolve. Our new emailing solution is much simpler and more powerful. You can easily import your existing contacts (to learn more ).
Accessing the Discussion Lists tool
- Connect to your Infomaniak space (manager.infomaniak.com)
- Go to Email Service
- Click on the Email Service / domain name concerned
- In the left side menu click on Discussion Lists
Creating or modifying a list
- click on "Add a discussion list" or on an existing list to modify it
- configure your list according to the settings below:
- Email address of the list
The name of the list determines the email address to write to in order to send messages. The desired name should not therefore already exist as an email address on the domain. And the domain is the one on which you have the Mail hosting from which you access the Discussion Lists tool. - List name
It lets you name your lists in order to easily differentiate them. - Description
Enter a detailed description for this list. Important: this description will be visible in the subscriber's registration email. - Moderator Emails
You can put as many moderator email addresses as you like (4096 characters max).
A moderator does not have to be a member of the mailing list, however he does not receive the mailing list he sends nor the messages sent directly to the list (see below). Of course, a response sent directly to the moderator is received. If you are a moderator, we suggest you include a second personal email address as a member (subscriber). - Who can subscribe to the list?
Allows you to make your discussion list more or less open to subscribing according to your choice. The subscribers' limit per list is 120,000 addresses. - Who can write to the list?
- Only moderators
In this case, the message must start from the email address indicated in the "moderator" field (from a mail / Webmail software or from the tool directly but you must be logged in the administration console with the right user (the one specified in the "moderator" field)! If someone "guesses" the address of the list or if a subscriber writes to the list address, he will get an error message by email after his attempt to send. - Subscribers and moderators
In this case, the message can start from the address specified in the "moderator" field or from any address specified as a member (subscriber). Without any other activated option, the subscriber who wishes to reply to the list will send his message to the moderator's address. So this is not a real discussion among members of the list. Of course, one can change the "To" field when replying to the message in the mailing list, to manually indicate the list address as the destination address. But it will therefore reveal the sender's email address, which may not be desired. - Subscribers and moderators in moderation
In this case, the designated moderator receives at his email address the message sent by the individual accompanied by links to validate it before sending to the list (or rejecting it) - Anyone (subscribers, non subscribers, moderators) in moderation
Anyone can write to the discussion list, whether the email is subscribed or not. However, all sent messages must be accepted by a moderator - Anyone: subscribers, non subscribers (in moderation), moderators
As with point 4, everyone can write to the list. However, messages sent by non subscribed addresses must be accepted by a moderator
