Maximum number of connections to a given hosting space
We place a limit on web pages of 30 simultaneous connections per IP address (images are not limited). The aim of this is to limit programs attempting to download the content of web sites en masse or browsers that have been "hacked" or had download plugins installed to make more connections than the original limit (generally between 5 and 10).
Errors of the type "503 Service Temporarily Unavailable; the server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later" are due either to scripts using excessive resources or to too many simultaneous connections from a visitor to the site.
Check any scripts which make multiple connections to the server to display data, and restrict the number of simultaneous connections, particularly in the case of error 503 with Cloud Server hostings or limits (memory, execution time, simultaneous connections) can be increased beyond the real capacities of the system used on the site.
We host sites with tens of thousands of connections per day without ever overloading the server or slowing down their site.
In the case of visitors complaining, check whether they have installed any software designed to speed up downloads client-side by opening multiple connections on the site. The Fasterfox plugin for Firefox, which is supposed to speed up web page access, downloads the various page elements by making multiple connections to the server. This may also cause the aforementioned error: the plugin must therefore be disabled.
