Applying Joomla 2.x updates
Actions to be carried out
To upgrade your Joomla installation to the latest 2.5.x version, you must set the entire Joomla folder to CHMOD 2777 via FTP, doing so recursively so that these permissions apply to all Joomla files.
Also check that your .htaccess file definitely contains the commands given in this FAQ (click here).
Then go to the Joomla administration page and to:
Components -> Joomla! Update
Choose "Write Files Directly" and wait for the message indicating that the operation was successful.
Set the entire Joomla installation to CHMOD 2775 and then apply a CHMOD 2777 to the directories listed at:
Site -> System Information -> Folder permissions
In the menu go to Extensions -> Extension Manager
Click on Databases (link)
Click on Fix (button)
Updating previous versions: jUpgrade is a Joomla component allowing data to be migrated from Joomla 1.5 to Joomla 1.6 or later. Warning: this component does not update your Joomla 1.5 version but instead allows you to migrate to Joomla 1.6 or Joomla 1.7, or indeed 2.5!
The jUpgrade/jUpdate components may be used but there is a file that you may need to edit in order to remove the call to set_time_limit. Please consult the respective project documentation along with this FAQ (click here).
