Adding a sub-domain, as its name implies, isn't a Web redirection. Adding a local or external sub-domain applies a modification to that domain's DNS zone.
To achieve the desired result, you need to first create a local sub-domain and then implement a redirection within an .htaccess file using some rewriterules.
